Lancers Embrace Tech, Pioneer In Promotion
The Lancer Volleyball Club (LVC) is pleased to announce the creation of www.lancervolleyball.com . The page is to, “centralize the media outlets of the Lancer Volleyball Program at the University of Windsor.” says Dr. Dave Piche the Interim President of the LVC.
The Lancer Volleyball Program is at the for-front in social media within the CIS. The Program features, their own radio show featuring alumni Jeff Hackett talking with Head Coach Shawn Lippert every week in season, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube Channel, Live Chat with Coach Lippert, a 24 hour channel dedicated to everything Lancer Volleyball and a weekly newsletter that reaches almost 2000 volleyball enthusiasts and still is growing.
“I never knew how far reaching our media goes until I started getting statistics in from Singapore and Australia.” Comments Head Coach Shawn Lippert. “After I came back from the CIS Coaching Summit, I realized that Windsor really is light years ahead of most CIS institutions as far as media go.”
According to Silicon Valley Insider, 95% of the world’s population is reached by television with 64% the Web. But the amount of time spent by the individual is the key factor on embracing new forms of media. The average teenager in 2010 spent 3 hours per day watching TV according to Neilson. The average teenager spends 30 minutes viewing the internet but is attached to the medium 6 hours per day through phone and WIFI. The average teenager will use the internet for instant on-demand satisfaction, while the TV is for killing time with shows they cannot get through the internet.
So what does all this mean for Coach Lippert? “To me the writing is on the wall. The average user for information will turn to the internet. While the average user for general entertainment will turn to the TV. But as the internet adapts to the entertainment side of applications, you will see TV on a down trend. The internet is cheaper and you can do more with it. There is always the age old argument of quality vs. content. I really do believe that content will win over quality any day of the week. There are already catalysts for that argument with movies like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity. It all translates over into sports too.”
Lippert may be right, with millions of dollars already in the works with lower budget films around content and internet based marketing for the future.
According to the online Inquisitr, when enough devices offer internet content, including television sets, the switch off from television will accelerate across more age groups. Ease of use and ease of access will change the viewing habits of billions globally in the next 10 years.
- Social Media Usage
The Windsor Lancer Men’s Volleyball Program is diving into pioneering what it means to follow Windsor Sports. This small niche sport is setting the bar for marketing and getting the message to the masses. They are taking all the tools and utilizing them to their maximum and is embracing new methods.
Coach Lippert sums up, “ I am not saying that there won’t be TV’s in the living room for groups of people to watch sporting events such as the volleyball we offer. It’s just that the conduit of transmitting will change. The idea of network broadcasting through cable or television will die off the way the medium is transmitted now. They all will have to adapt and if a volleyball team from Windsor Ontario can figure it out, I am sure they all will too.”
The LVC has set up mirror sites with www.lancervolleyball.net and www.lancervolleyball.ca .
