Lippert Returns From Coaching Summit
Head Coach Shawn Lippert returned from a CIS Coaches Coaching Summit in co-ordination with the PAN/AM Cup in Gatineau Quebec from June 15 to June 19. The Summit was to close the communication gap from Volleyball Canada and the CIS varsity coaching programs. The entire Summit was paid for by Volleyball Canada that was subsidized from the OWN THE PODIUM initiative that was brought to light with the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver British Columbia.
“It was a great experience.” Coach Lippert comments. “The whole summit was informative and the access we had to our National and Olympic Program was unprecedented. I literally could ask for anything from Volleyball Canada and they without hesitation gave me everything I needed.”
The summit was an opportunity for CIS coaches and Volleyball Canada to get on the same page for player development. The summit included seminars and information blocks on different topics including, World Championship Review with National Head Coach Glen Hoag, Volleyball Canada’s Introduction to VC Regional Training Schools and Changing Trends Within The Game.
“Coach Hoag could look us in the eye and say we need as a country to do “THIS” better.” Comments Coach Lippert. “Being a first year Coach I was able to leap frog a coaching learning curve with this type of training. It took the
guessing out of what Canada needs to make their players better. We got it from HEAD Coaches mouth. The experience has got me excited to get into the gym and apply some of this to our athletes.”
The event received high praise and already there is a Summit planned for next year at a date and place to be presented at a later date.
The Summit was tagged with the PAN/AM Cup, a warm up tournament for the PAN/AM Games which is the beginning of the Olympic Qualifiers to London 2012. Canada finished with a bronze medal where they played Puerto Rico in 3 straight sets. In the final the Brazilians defeated the US 3-1 to capture the countries first ever gold for this tournament.
